Aftercare Guide
How to Care for Your Tattoo
For optimal healing and aesthetic appearance of your newly applied ink, proper tattoo maintenance is essential. To take care of your tattoo, adhere to following guidelines:
Initial Care
After your treatment, keep the bandage on for at least two to four hours. Before touching your tattoo, carefully wash your hands. Use mild, fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water to gently wash the tattoo. Don’t scrub. Use a fresh paper towel to pat dry or allow it to air dry.
Moisturizing
Put on a light layer of odorless lotion or tattoo aftercare ointment. Apply just enough—a little goes a long way. For the next few weeks, keep applying moisture two to three times every day.
Avoid
Steer clear of the sun, swimming pools, and water baths for a minimum of two weeks. Picking or scratching the tattoo increases the risk of infection and scars. Don loose apparel to prevent it from rubbing on the tattoo.
Tattoo Aftercare Day by Day
Day 1-2
Upon your departure from the studio, your tattoo will be wrapped. Take off the bandage and give the tattoo a gentle wash after a few hours. Put on a little coating of aftercare cream.
Day 3-4
It’s possible for the tattoo to become heated and begin to peel. Proceed with the gentle cleansing and dab on a light amount of moisturizing cream.
Day 5-7
It will continue to peel, much like a sunburn. This is typical. Allow the peeling skin to fall off naturally; do not pick at it.
Week 2
The more healing occurs, the less brilliant your tattoo will be. Continue using moisturizer and stay out of the sun.
Week 3-4
Although your tattoo should be mostly healed, it may still appear a little flaky or dry. As needed, keep moisturizing.
Beyond Week 4
To maintain the vibrant colors of your tattoo, be careful to apply sunscreen once it has healed.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
In order to aid in healing, drink enough of water and eat a balanced diet.
